Structural Engineering

Structural engineering requires the ability to match the right material and methods to a particular structure based on specific performance requirements. Not just building code requirements, the structural design must encompass the projects budget, local contractor ability, and local material availability. Many times what works well in one location may be inadequate in another. Furthermore, the owner may need to anticipate the ability to convert the building to other uses in the future.

Mathers Engineering provides structural engineering consulting services that meet the entire needs of the project and client: a logical design within a reasonable budget to construct. Whether you need a multistory wood apartment building, a concrete post-tensioned condominium, a cheap retail building, or a multistory steel office building - we have the expertise to meet your structural needs.

Beyond buildings, we have worked on a wide array of structures. Custom cast aluminum rails that look like tree branches, heavy timber water flumes, large statues, and a host of other unique structures. Primarily for theme parks or architectural features, these structures tend to fall outside of most code guidelines. Utilizing common sense, Mathers Engineering is able to provide the analytical rigor needed to get these structures permitted and built.

Primarily located in Florida, we know wind loading. Not only do we know how to compute wind loads - our engineers have been through several hurricanes as well. Were most folks focus on just uplift, we understand the total envelope of uplift and lateral forces which are imposed on a structure. Working with the architect early in the design process, we can help guide the building to the most efficient design (which is usually the cheapest).

Another benefit to living in Florida are the beaches and rivers, however; the buildings built on the coast are under constant attack from the coastal environment. Concrete restoration in coastal environments is another specialty of Mathers Engineering. We have done projects requiring balcony repair, balcony replacement, column repair, foundation repair, edge repairs for both buildings and parking car garages. Over the years we have completed several mid to high rise condominium concrete restoration projects in Palm Beach County, St. Lucie County, and Martin County. With offices in Central Florida, we can handle additional projects from Jacksonville on the east coast to the Tampa Bay region and Gulf coast. A typical concrete restoration project would include the preparation of bid specifications, documentation to local building department for repair work, and threshold inspection of the repair work.

Have a new or unique building product you would like to have analyzed or reviewed? We can help. Whether it is curtain wall systems, glass wall systems, or anything else you wish to stick on a building or in the ground: we can help to get you through the product approval process. Working with testing labs, meeting with product approval officials, and tweaking the product design to meet your goals are tasks we have done many times before. We have experience in submitting reports for Miami/Dade County and Florida NOA product approval reviews.
